After School Program Starts Tuesday
OSA’s after school care program begins Tuesday, 9/4, under the direction of assistant principal Mike Oz and supervision of Cassandra Freeman.
Times: Mondays, 1:00 – 5:00 pm, & Tuesdays – Fridays, 3:15 – 5:00 pm
Where: Student Center
Cost: $10 daily flat rate for families that pay in advance; $20 drop-in flat rate. The program coordinator will alert families when the account balance reaches $30 or less. NOTE: Students are only charged on days that they attend the program. Students must enroll and prepay if they would like the $10 daily fee. (The daily fee will be waived for families who qualify and sign up for free and reduced lunch.)
To Sign Up: Print and fill out the OSA After School Program Registration Form and return to the front office (Mr. Oz’s box). Payments should be included with the form and are by cash or check only (make checks to OSA and write “After School” on memo line).

When: Thursday, September 6 (Middle School & 9th Grade) & Friday, September 7 (10th, 11th, and 12th Grade)

- Middle School will be going at the start of the PE or dance period. For dancers, the very beginning of 3rd period.
- For seniors, this is the ID and required school photo. Senior portrait sign-ups for September 17th formal portraits will be shared in a separate email with the link to sign up.)
- The photo company will be on campus from 8 am until 3:15.
Senior Picture Day
When: Monday, September 17 NEW DATE
Formal senior portraits have been changed to Monday, September 17th. Students will be able to select and sign up for a portrait sitting time next week. Seniors will still have their informal portrait taken for school IDs next Friday, September 7th.

When: Thursday, September 6, 6:00 – 7:40 pm (Time is tentative and subject to change.)
Meet your students’ teachers and learn about the syllabus and expectations for each class. This is a parent-/guardian-only event.
APT Emphasis Meetings
When: Tuesday, September 11, 7:00 pm (right after the APT General Meeting)
State of the School, Annual Fund Kick-Off
When: Tuesday, September 18, or Thursday, September 20, 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Weekly Announcements
Lunchtime Work Recovery: If you have been marked down in one of your classes due to tardiness, please attend Work Recovery for an opportunity to improve your grade. It starts on Tuesday at lunch in Room 338.
24 Hour Play Festival: The School of Theatre and Manifested Theatre Company (a student-run production company within the emphasis) would like to invite the OSA community to their co-production event, the 24 Hour Play Festival. It will take place on Saturday, September 15th, 2018 at 7:00 pm in Sweet’s Ballroom. Come experience new work, produced in just 24 HOURS! This event is donation-based and all contributions are welcomed and accepted! Hope to see you all there!
OSA Club Leaders/Presidents: HS Student Council/Leadership would like all clubs, even in proposal or renewal, to contact Leon Jones Jr, the HS Secretary, for a potential project that we would you guys to be a part of! You can contact him at leon.jones@students.oakarts.org!
Political Science Club: The Political Science club is a forum for political action, discussion, and debate. If you are interested in politics and are tired of not taking action, come by Ms. Kuzmeski’s room, Room 322, on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm, during lunch. This club is open to all high school students.
National Honor Society: NHS meetings will start next week. Friday, September 7, will be seniors and Friday, September 14, will be juniors. All meetings take place at lunch in Room 322.
Latinos Unidos: Latinos Unidos will be meeting on Tuesday at lunch (12:50 – 1:35 pm) in Mr. Chazaro’s Room 306. All are welcome /todos bienvenidos!
College Counseling Night for Seniors & Families: On Wednesday, September 5, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Ms. Snyder will hold a college counseling night for seniors and their families to check in around
the college application process and help support you in this exciting process!
Senior Meeting: We will be having our senior meeting this Friday in Room 306 at the start of lunch. Seniors, please join us to discuss prom, graduation, senior trip, end of the year events, etc. Feel free to bring your food.
Middle School Science Club: Middle School Science Club begins on Wednesday at 3:15 pm in Room 322 and will meet every Wednesday at the same time. No need to sign up, just come by and have some science fun.
Savage Dance Company’s Intensive Fall 2018
Begins September 25th!
Running September 25th through January 13th*, SJDC’s Fall Intensive 2018 offers 2 Dance Training tracks:
- Beginner/Intermediate Foundation Training: 4:45 – 6:15 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
- Intermediate/Advanced: 4:45-6:15 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
and 11:00 am – 1:15 pm on Saturdays and Sundays
*No classes: 9/9
Location: Oakland School for the Arts, 3rd Floor Dance Studios

Parent Meetings for each emphasis take place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. These important meetings give parents a chance to meet new parents and get to know each other. Parent leadership is needed to support each emphasis so students can thrive. Examples of leadership vary by emphasis and may include chaperoning field trips, helping with after-school activities, supporting the many efforts required for successful performances, searching for supplies, etc. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend! The first meetings are scheduled for September 11.
