Heart of Oakland – 2 Weeks Away!

Heart of Oakland

In just two weeks, OSA kicks off the Heart of Oakland Spring Benefit & Student Showcase at the historic Fox Theater. Families & friends are purchasing their tickets, and many donors and local businesses are showing their support for Oakland School for the Arts through event sponsorships. As we approach this wonderful event celebrating arts education, we want you to know the power you and Heart of Oakland can have for OSA!

Why Heart of Oakland?

Heart of Oakland is a student showcase, representing each Art department, and Benefit/fundraiser for OSA’s general operating expenses. This event will honor our founder, former Gov. Jerry Brown for his contributions to arts in education.

It is also an opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate and support the work we do on a daily basis to provide our nearly 750 students with a tuition-free education.

How can I (you!) help?

1) Spread the word! Tell your friends, family, greater communities. Like and share our FB Page.

2) Interested in volunteering for Heart of Oakland? Please sign up today!

3) Know a potential corporate sponsor? Or someone at a Foundation? Or neighbor who might be interested in checking out what we do at OSA? Please connect with Director of Advancement, Kathryn Keslosky at kkelosky@oakarts.org.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday, April 26th at 7:30 pm. Purchase your tickets today!

OSA Theatre Faculty and Students Collaborate with Professionals in Upcoming Ragged Wing Ensemble Production “Time Sensitive”

April 6-May 4 2019time-sensitive-poster

OSA Chair of Production Design Jean-Francois Revon has designed and built an environmental set, with OSA student assistants in Scenic: Rocky Romero, Sara Wizig, Angelina (Nina) Ramirez. Sound Assistance from Atlix Martinez, Lighting Assistance from OSA Students Adaleyd Deleon, Emily Leonard and Auzar (Zita) Saffarian, and Assistant Stage Management Fellow OSA student Kipland Fletcher. All OSA student assistant fellows are mentored by professional Ragged Wing Ensemble designers and technicians/crew.

Time Sensitive is an original play by Artistic Director Amy Sass that combines clockwork choreography, rhythmic fugue and melting ice into a fantastical tale that urgently asks: How do we hold a moment if we constantly crave the next big thing?

The City swallowed the world. It ate the day and the night, the tides and the seasons. A woman speeds up her pregnancy to meet a deadline, The One At The Top finally comes down, and an old man invents a Clockwork Kid that can change everything.

Originally created in workshop with Ragged Wing Ensemble 5 years ago, our 2019 production will feature an updated script as well as a deep collaboration with Climate Artist Carter Brooks and his ice-art as well as an environmental scenic design by OSA Chair of Production Jean-Francois Revon and OSA student assistant fellows.

Jean-Francois Revon’s fantastic environmental design rendered below.
